This Still White seller had an amazing find at an estate sale after someone cleaned out Grandma's attic.
No one could tell Jessica anything about the dress other than it was hand sewn. This dress was owned by a 103 year old lady in our church who passed away three years ago, it was made in the early 1960's I believe.
At her estate sale we bought it for auction at US $5000 dollars, which was low end for what it probably cost.
After having it looked over by a seamstress, the guess was that it was made off of a basic wedding dress pattern sold by a catalog in the 1960's.
The dress is in its original condition, Jessica did not have it altered - in fact she altered herself to fit the dress by waist training with a corset before the big day. Except for dry cleaning the dress nothing was changed.
"This was the perfect dress for me because I knew I wanted something to fit my wedding theme (rustic elegance) but I wasn't finding anything that fit my personality or style. I wanted straps because I have an hourglass figure and didn't want to be pulling a dress up all day and night. However, the dresses with straps that I looked at all had either with plunging necklines or covered too much shoulder. I also wanted something that was going to be easy to move around in at the reception - as the reception was in a small garden area. I wore my great-grandmother's 1950's shoes to go with, it was a perfect match!
There was a moment I saw the dress I knew I had to have it, I think I saw the bustle first and just about died...because of how long and beautiful the bustle was and I loved that I could take that off to move comfortably later on in the day."
"Many people have asked why I am not keeping the dress, and while I thought that I would hold onto it, I feel like this dress was in the closet for too long. Every woman should get an opportunity to be in a dress like this and hopefully feel as amazingly beautiful as I did on my wedding day."
