The Dress

This a gorgeous Jenny Yoo dress/Amy Kuschel lace topper combination that I designed for my wedding last fall in New Orleans. What you can’t see in the pictures, but which I LOVE, is that it’s Swiss dot tulle over a silk base skirt—if you love polka dots like I do, you will fall in love with this dress. It is also super comfortable— fitted enough to never slide down, but flows beautifully through the skirt. The topper is hand-sewn lace with pearl loop buttons up the back. The topper really added the ‘Wow’ factor to this dress. I also added a belt to add a little sparkle, which is also included with the dress.

I had the dress and topper professionally dry cleaned two days after my wedding, and both look fantastic. There are a few tiny tears in the bottom hem of the tulle layer, but since the tulle hem is altered by cutting it (no sewing), I haven’t had them fixed. If you’re shorter than 5’9’’, you’ll probably cut them off anyway to re-hem the length. It is totally possible to have the topper sewn onto the dress, but I didn't bother with that since it fit so well.

Alterations

The store that sold me the dress was way off when they took my measurements, so the dress definitely needed to be taken in— I’m 5’9, about 135 pounds and it was falling off of me. My tailor did a gorgeous job, making it fit perfectly for a normal US street size 4. She added cups, so there’s no need to wear undergarments under the dress if you don’t want to, and she cut the hem to make it the right length with my low (1.5 inch) heels. We also cut out the extra layer of really poofy crinoline, but I still have that and it can easily added back to the dress if you want a dress with more volume.

The lace topper has not been altered at all. It is a size 8 and fits me perfectly-- I have a 34.5" chest, size B-C cup, 27-inch waist.
