The Dress

Off-the-shoulder stretch crepe mermaid gown by US-based label Theia Couture.

The simplicity and elegance of the stretch crepe gives this gown a timeless appeal. The style is grandiose with a streamlined silhouette, off-the-shoulder sleeves, collarbone-baring-neckline and chapel-length train. A perfect mix of classic old Hollywood with a modern twist - clean, timeless, stylish and incredibly flattering. The stretch crepe material is incredibly comfortable and forgiving - not restricting at all - and the quality of material and construction ensures a smooth drape across the body.

The gown was purchased from The Bridal Atelier in Melbourne in November 2017 (made-to-order by Theia Couture) and worn in January 2018. It was beautifully fitted by Parisima Alterations, a highly experienced wedding seamstress who was recommended by The Bridal Atelier. A number of slight alterations have been made:
- cups were added, allowing wear without a strapless bra
- a bustle was added, allowing ease of movement after conclusion of the ceremony: this is very easy to use, just requiring a single button
- the hem was taken up slightly: I am 165cm (5'4) and wore 7cm heels
- the torso length was shortened slightly: according to Parisima, this gown has quite a long torso, and most brides require this to be altered
- the waist was taken in slightly, giving a gorgeous, fitted hourglass shape
The total price paid for the dress was $3,690, including $615 for alterations.

The gown has been professionally dry cleaned by Syndal's Bridal Dry Cleaners, who were again recommended by The Bridal Atelier. It comes with a certificate of dry cleaning and is in like-new condition, ready to be adored by a new bride!
