Gemma & Simon's Country Garden Wedding

This wedding has it all - lace, vintage maps, superheros and beautiful bursts of colour. Not to mention the smile on the faces of this happy couple.

"Simon and I met at Leeds University. We lived together and soon became more than just friends. He is a Geography Teacher and I'm a doctor.

He proposed at a gorgeous country hotel in Woodbridge, Suffolk. He had planned to propose whilst on a romantic country walk but despite his supposed excellent geography knowledge, he neglected to notice the sewage works right beside the spot he had planned to bend down on one knee! He then took me by surprise when I came out of a relaxing roll top bath with him standing on his knee with a ring and champagne.

After a mild panic in the morning as my make-up artist had gone to the wrong venue, we got ready in time, drank champers to calm the nerves and headed over to the venue. I was so nervous I forgot my bouquet so had to walk down the aisle without it!

We had a wonderful relaxed ceremony and I couldn’t help but fill with tears and emotional as we walked back up the aisle together as man and wife.

I knew I wanted a modern shift dress style rather than a meringue and also that I wanted a feature back. I fell in love with the Alice Temperley dress when I went to the Notting Hill boutique and everything I tried after that didn’t come close. I love the vintage style lace but the very modern feel.

We got married at the Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury[http://www.gtb.co.uk/], the Cotswolds. Our close family stayed in the Great Tythe House, a gorgeous manor house on the site. All of our friends stayed at the venue in converted cottages.

I wanted to have a relaxed country garden feel. Our flowers were grown by a wonderful local supplier of wildflowers using peaches, soft greens and purples. Our guests had to "find your face to find your place" by finding a luggage tag with their picture and a superhero character hanging between two rustic ladders (Simon is a huge comic book fan). We also used a lot of vintage map detailing (Simon loves geography!).

The weather was gorgeous and sunny for our drink reception and we sat down for an amazing 3 course meal for the wedding breakfast. We danced into the night and some friends surprised us with an impromptu drum and bass DJ set which we loved!

Try not to stress and enjoy it! It really will be the best day of your life no matter what so don't panic about minor details!"

Gemma is planning to put the money towards furnishing the house she and Simon have recently bought. We love her idea of buying a gorgeous family dining table and in honour of the dress, engraving the date of their wedding on the table. We wish them all the best!
